Spot the drugs cabinet!

Nov 18, 2016

The Misuse of Drugs (Safe Custody) 1973 regulations state that ‘Nothing shall be displayed outside a safe or cabinet to indicate that drugs are kept inside it’

The simplest way to achieve this is to position the safe with the controlled drugs,  inside another locked cupboard.

The photos show how neatly these cabinets can fit inside another cabinet and how when the outer door is closed there is nothing to indicate which cabinet is the one with the Controlled Drugs in.

An alarm light that operates when the Controlled Drugs safe door is open should be fixed in a prominent position (eg either on the nurse base or above the entrance doorway) so that an unauthorised entry is clearly visible to nursing staff. All Systemed cabinets DR06 style Controlled Drugs Safes are fitted with a contact switch for wiring to a remote alarm.
